Effects of Prosocial Video Games on Prosocial Behavior

Greitemeyer, Tobias and Osswald, Silvia. “Effects of Prosocial Video Games on Prosocial Behavior.” Journal of Personality and Social Psychology 98.2 (2010): 211-221. Scholar Search. Web. 18 Mar. 2010.

Greitemeyer is a member of the School of Psychology at the University of Sussex, Falmer, England. Osswald is a member of the Department of Psychology, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany. Their general hypothesis is that social video games have a positive effect on one’s social behavior, but they also argue that violent video games have negative effects on one’s social behaviors. They found through study that violent video games increase anxiety, hostility, aggression, and other anti-social qualities to people of all ages and genders.
