Colom, Roberto, et al. "Video Games: Do they Require General Intelligence?" Computers and Education 53.2 (2009): 414-418. Brigham Young University-Scholar Search. Web. 23 Feb. 2010.
The authors of this article, five of which are professors at the Department of Differentan Psycology and Work Psychology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, and one a professor at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid in Spain, describe and summarize their conclusions to the research question of whether video games require general intelligence. They site the findings of another study done that suggests that those who are good at video games have a general intelligence. To test this hypothesis they measure the general intelligence of individuals and compare their general cognitive abilities. They presume that if the correlation between the two are the same at the end of the study or have increased then certain types of video games improve cognitive skills and functions. At the end of the study they determined that video games do in fact require general intelligence and go on to say that this is a good enough basis to build another study on whether or not video games increase intelligence.
